Where we Work

CDI-Initiative operates across several regions in South Sudan, reaching communities in both urban and rural settings. The organization has active programs in Aweil West, Uror, Bor, Magwi, Nimule, Wau, Kuajok, Rumbek, Yei, Juba, and Terekeka. These locations represent diverse cultural and social contexts where CDI focuses on empowering women, youth, and vulnerable groups through peacebuilding, livelihood support, protection, education, and humanitarian assistance. By maintaining a strong local presence, CDI works closely with community leaders, partners, and government structures to deliver impactful and sustainable solutions that improve lives and promote resilience.

Current Operations

The Pathways to Self-Reliance initiative is a vital and transformative program designed to empower internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, host communities, and refugees to achieve sustainable self-reliance. Implemented by a seven-member consortium under the leadership of Titi Foundation, the project operates across five South Sudanese states — Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Central Equatoria, Unity, Eastern Equatoria, and Jonglei. Over a three-year period, the initiative seeks to directly benefit approximately 70,000 people and indirectly reach 150,000 others, with a focus on ensuring 60% female and 40% male participation.

CDI is implementing the project in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State, specifically in Magwi, Omeo, and Obbo Bomas of Magwi Payam. The project’s core goal is to strengthen existing community initiatives through three key strategies:

  1. Promoting Climate-Smart Livelihoods,

  2. Enhancing Community Self-Reliance through the Survivor Community-Led Response (SCLR) approach, and

  3. Building Anticipatory Early Warning and Response Systems.

Expected outcomes include improved community self-reliance, strengthened household food security, protection of livelihoods and the environment, increased awareness of climate change, and enhanced capacity of South Sudanese NGOs to deliver effective humanitarian assistance.
